Meet Boomer. The recent photo of this poor puppy is right off the ACO truck when he went into the shelter of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. He suffered abuse, neglect and was in need of immediate rescue. He is Emaciated, anemic and suffers from a severe skin infection at only 10 weeks old. The animal rescue nonprofit will ensure he receives the urgent medical care that’s needed, but he’s also in much need of a loving forever home.
With April 30th marking National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters.
What can you do to help?
Animal shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a part of the process. Since animals come in daily, the shelters must work quickly to ensure the animal’s health and well being. Only then can they be adopted into their forever home. The day also encourages you to visit a shelter near you and find your new fur baby. Visit with the shelter to consider all the needs the dog or cat requires for the long term.
If you feel you can’t meet those needs, consider helping in other ways.
Give your time by volunteering. Not only will this help the shelter by providing the animals with exercise, companionship, and socialization, but it also gives you that wonderful animal love we all so enjoy.
You can also check the shelter’s donation needs list. Bring the items you are able to give. This will help the shelter animals find their forever homes more quickly.
There’s a wave of businesses in pet-care that are doing initiatives to help their local shelters. CBD companies LolaHemp and Come Back Daily are raising funds for two local non profits, Social Tees NYC and Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
If you can’t volunteer and don’t have the means to donate, small acts of kindness can help. Purchase a LolaHemp CBD product for your pet or gift it to a pet owner, and a portion of the funds will go to benefit the two organizations.
